All You need to Know before Seeking Admissions in IIMs in 2014

Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) conduct the Common Admission Test (CAT) to select the best candidates for their business administrative programs. The exam was conducted from 16th October 2013 to 11th November 2013 across the country and the results are expected to be declared on 14th January, 2014. As we all know that CAT is an entry gate for students who wish to pursue their MBA and other management programs at the most reputed business schools of India. In 2013, around 1,94,516 candidates appeared for CAT, which was comparatively low as compared to previous years, where more than 2 lakh students would appear for CAT. The examination was held in 76 centers across 40 Indian cities.

Total Seats Across 13 IIMs

Indian Institutes of Management have increased their total quota of seats for CAT 2013. 115 more seats have been added to the existing number of seats and the total number of seats across 13 IIMs has jumped to 3,335. Seeing the increased number of women applicants, the exam organizers have started giving an extra point during admissions to women candidates.

CAT MBA Cut offs

The CAT MBA Cut offs mainly depend on a number of factors, such as CAT exam score, performance during interviews, group discussion marks, past performance in exams of graduate courses and many more.

Here are some of the important points which you must know before you take your scores and start applying for courses in IIMs.

•    It is a well-known fact that highest cut off goes for IIM Ahmedabad, followed by Bangalore and Calcutta, which ask for a percentile no less than 99.
•    The General Category students should target IIM Trichy and IIM Udaipur if they have appeared for the first time in CAT 2013.
•    The Cut-off marks for IIM Ranchi, IIM Rohtak and IIM Raipur is also expected to increase this year.
•    IIM Indore and IIM Kozhikode will ask for a percentile no less than 97-98.

To seek admission in the top ranking IIMs and other business schools, you would need to secure at least 90-95 percentiles in the CAT 2013. Expect more tough competition this time while you wait for CAT IIM result 2014.
