Study Routes
Class XII – Although one can essentially choose any stream, some specialized courses in cinematography and sound recording require science (PCM) in Class XII.
After Class XII – In general, graduates in any stream are eligible direction and film making course. However some specialized cinematography courses and sound recording require a graduate degree in Physics or Electronics.
With increasing competition, formal training in film making, especially in direction and production work, are essential to be successful. Both undergraduate and post graduate courses are possible.

Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu, CIT Campus, Chennai. (3 year courses in direction, screen play writing and cinematography, diploma courses in Sound recording and engineering, Film Processing and Film editing)
- AJ Kidwai Mass Communications Research centre (MCRC), Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi (2-year diploma in mass communications with specialization in film making)
- Film and Television Institute of India, Law College Road, Pune (one year course and shorter term diplomas in all aspects of film making)
