Time to show up your mathematical skills

Mathematics has always been considered as the biggest monster in the field of education. In the earlier times, students were generally seen to be scared of the maths exam and obtaining the mere passing marks in the subject, used to be a miracle for students. But, now the times have changed, students have not only started liking maths as a subject, but you can actually find a number of students taking maths as a graduation and post graduation subject. Now great news for all maths lovers is that they can show up their creativity and their mind boggling skills by participating in the summer projects organised by Mathematical Sciences Foundation.

The foundation has come up with a great opportunity for all the mathematics students, from schools and colleges all over the country, who will be made to work on projects and show their abilities accordingly. A total number of 70 students will be selected out of the lot, and the last date for the registration in the same is 22nd April. The students will be divided into small groups, with a topic assigned for projects and will also be given classes on the use of mathematics in the practical fields such as engineering and finance. Advanced features of some useful software like Excel, Flash, will also be taught to students.

As reported by the Times of India, some of the subjects or topics, as projects decided by the foundation this year, are:

 Face recognition software
 How mathematics can be used for the early detection of diseases
 Analysis of the traffic flow and crowd on roads
 How to fight with the computer viruses

This can prove to be a great learning experience for all the students and a chance to show their calibre to the outer world. Also, it’s a world class opportunity to meet the genius in the field of mathematics, who have obtained their degrees from universities like Oxford, Indian Statistical Institute, Imperial College, University of Delhi, University of Houston, etc. So, what are you waiting for, go and grab it!
