GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) for Technical Education

Between the various options available for future career in the field of science, one cannot afford to ignore the GATE test being the primary one for engineering. However, for those students who want to opt for other courses in different fields it really does not matter much, but if anyone wants to go for engineering, then, it really matters a lot. Before knowing much about available options, one must know the test itself.

GATE is the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. This is an all India level exam which includes the subjects related to undergraduate engineering and technology. The exam is conducted and controlled by the Indian Institute of Science and the IIT’s in India. All this done by these authorities as per the guidelines of the National Coordination Board-GATE along with Government of India and a few more authorities.

The performance and aptitude of any candidate willing to get into the field of engineering are judged by this test. Many of the top colleges in India accept the score of this test for giving admissions to the engineering students. The colleges offering the post graduate programs in engineering take the students who have scored well in GATE. The required assistance to these colleges is provided by an authority known as MHRD along with other government departments.

The Modes of Test:

GATE is conducted in two modes. One is online, and the other is offline. The online mode is the computer based test where the candidate appearing in the exam has to choose the right answer by clicking on it. The exam, which is in online mode, is conducted in January. While offline exam is a paper based exam in which the candidate needs to select the correct answer on a paper answer sheet. The answer sheet in this mode of exam is OCR type.

Eligibility:

The candidates appearing in the exam has to hold a bachelors degree in technology or engineering or architecture or any other field of science.

Those people who are Masters in Computer Application can also appear for this exam. Any master degree holder in the field of science is eligible to appear for the exam.

Exam dates:

The latest news about GATE 2014 is the inclusion of a new paper named as ‘Ecology and Evolution’ and the other thing that can amaze the candidates is that all the papers will be online now.

The announcement of the exam dates creates a wave of agitation among the candidates who have registered for it. Many of the students who have been waiting for the exam are now ready to give their best shot in this exam. The date is near now, and the online exam will be taking place in the month of February and will continue till March, which is not very far away. The exam will be held between 1st of February and 2nd of June.
