CAT IN 2014 – AWAITING CAT 2014 RESULTS

Clearing CAT has always been a dream for Indian business students. Without this, the chance to get admitted into the top league of MBA colleges like IIM’s is non-existent. Today, dreams of 1.70 lakh students are on hold. As 27th December 2014 approaches the result of CAT 2014 exam would unveil itself. One can only wonder what it would bring for the MBA aspirants.
Over the years, CAT has seen a lot of changes. 2014 was no different. Administrated by Tata Consultancy Services, the duration of the exam was increased by 30 minutes from 140 to 170 minutes. Along with that questions for each section – Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation plus Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning has increased from 30 - 50. Incorporating these changes the time duration for each question was also reduced from 2.20 minutes to 1.42 Minutes.
The reduction of time has proven to be directly proportional to the difficulty level, which can have diverse effects. An Assistant professor from MDI, Gurgaon stated that as there is less time per question, the difficulty level would be toned down and because of that the cut-offs to these business schools would go up.
A senior professor from one of the IIM’s hinted that though the question paper seemed easy, the cut-offs could be higher, especially where older IIM’s are concerned. The truth would only be known once the result is out and the cut-off list is declared.

CAT Result 2014 - CAT 2013 Exam Result Announcement Date

Are you also waiting for CAT 2013 Results for the admission in MBA in 2014?

Common Admission Test (CAT) 2013 was conducted by IIM Kozhikode across 36 cities in India. Approx 2.0 lakhs MBA aspirants appeared for CAT 2013 exam from all over world at 61 centres. Indian Institute of management (IIM) has decided to declare this much awaited CAT 2013 Results on Tuesday, 14 January-2013. Candidates can visit the official website of IIM to see their CAT results 2014.

Ask any MBA aspirant in India about his ultimate wish or goal and the answer is same; cracking the CAT and getting a seat in IIM. And why not? A seat in the much coveted Indian Institutes of Management is a key for opening the doors of a bright career, a lifetime guarantee of financial affluence and corporate responsibility. An IIM pass-out finds his rightful place in the top echelons of the corporate circle. When the stakes are so high, it makes sense to be fully prepared for what is called the toughest management examination in the world; i.e Common Admission Test (CAT).  As the date of CAT 2013 exam results is just around the corner, (9th January 2013), the buzzword for MBA admission 2013 is getting strong.

CAT is the toughest to crack; Reality or just a myth?

Numerous surveys have offered the same conclusion, that CAT is the toughest management examination in the world. And may be it is. So what? You don’t expect to get a seat in IIM just like that when there are 300 other candidates vying for the same. If we look at some statistics of previous year results, in CAT 2013 results, a whopping 1.89 lakh students appeared for the exam, for a total of 3200 seats in IIMs. There are 152 other institutes which accept the CAT scores for admission, and that includes prominent names such as FMS, NIFT and now IITs also, but these colleges can be considered at best as a consolation prize. The crème de la crème always settles for nothing less than a seat in IIM. Therefore the only thing that makes CAT exam as tough as it appears is the competition.

In these recessionary times doing an MBA after spending lakhs of rupees doesn’t really sounds a good idea to many. With IIMs increasing their fees every second year the ROI is becoming an issue of concern. Further, opening of new IIMs many have been talking about another major issue that these premium institutions might face; Brand Dilution. Many alumni suggest that this step has had derogatory effect on the brand value that IIMs once used to provide. The ratio of seats to applicants which was 1:150 has now gone up to 1:57. While it will surely give a greater number of opportunities to students for pursuing MBA from the best institutes of the country, it also gives rise to doubts regarding the job assurance and brand power for which these institutes are so famous.  However, it is too early to comment and it will be worth watching how these new developments shape up the future of one of the best management institutes of the world.  Till then we can safely assume that Common Admission Test will remain the most talked about and preferred examination for management aspirants.

What after clearing CAT 2013 Exam?

Cracking the CAT might be the biggest milestone in the direction of gaining a seat in your favourite management institute but it is certainly not the final step. After CAT begins a series of gruelling Personal Interview sessions and Group Discussions which hold equal importance as the test itself.  If you are one of those lucky few who are able to crack the CAT 2013 -14 exam then you should immediately start preparing for PIs and GDs to increase your chance of getting the MBA admission.
